The Men’s Fashion Project at the 77th edition of Pitti Uomo was dedicated to Umit Benan. The designer presented the preview of his Menswear Collection F/W 2010-2011 with an original show of his unmistakable style.
The event was held in the Restaurant at the Santa Maria Novella Railroad Station, a building designed in the 1930s by a team of architects headed by Giovanni Michelucci and still considered one of the masterpieces of Italian rationalism.
Fondazione Discovery selected Umit Benan as the NEW PERFORMER at Pitti Uomo 77. The New Performers is a project/program produced by Pitti Discovery to create opportunities for new talents in fashion, as well as for those who work with fashion’s materials by bringing them together with various artistic and esthetic disciplines. Umit Benan was chosen since he was the winner of the first edition of “WHO IS ON NEXT? UOMO”.
Suzy Menkes (The International Herald Tribune) has written about him:
“Surfaces that appear to be rough, giving a hint of street wear, actually shield the soft underside of a duffel coat or a cashmere and wool cardigan. Showing the pieces mixed casually with jeans or a washed cotton short, or more formally with dressy clothes, Benan has captured, in humble proportions and thoughtful mixes, the spirit of the post-show-off era”.
