Project room KNITTED SITUATIONS AND THINGSFashion / Photography / Performance by Fulvio Ravagnani
We met Edward Buchanan, creative director and founder of Sansovino 6, who presented his SS17 collection at Pitti Filati, to know something more about what he think about creativity.
What are the constant inspirations that have accompanied you in your work?
My constant pool of inspiration is wide and deep. Culture, politics, and people i find most inspiring. No stone is left unturned. Ever.
How you approached knitwear area?
It happened by chance. It was the first medium i started working in when i arrived at bottega veneta years ago in vicenza. I think in the end it matched perfectly with how i imagined to see people dressed. It requires technique, precision, and it allows for the wearer to be comfortable at the same time. I also love that your "fabric" is created and molded to perfection. The body is the center. Italian manufacturing was the center for my development.
How is important for a creative, look to the past and how much should forget to go ahead and turn our gaze to the future?
Never forgetting the past but constantly considering carefully the future. Many things have been done, but it is important in creativity for me to develop ownership in my art. Honesty in creation.
And speaking of the future, we can still invent anything in fashion?
Absolutely. Perception and interpretation are very important today. There are many different roads to solve any equation.
